Black Dragon Kalameet - Print Proof Copy
almost 7 years ago – Thu, Feb 01, 2018 at 11:43:36 PM

Hi Unkindled,

We’re back again with the ‘Print Proof’ for Black Dragon Kalameet. If you’ve not seen the Guardian Dragon update check it out here, where we explain what a Level 4 Encounter is.

The ‘Print Proof’ boxes for Black Dragon Kalameet, and the Guardian Dragon are the copies that get sent to the Project Team from the factory in China, so they can check everything is how it should be. We got in early today and have taken the Black Dragon Kalameet box away from the Project Team to show to you!

Legend tells that long ago before the forgotten kingdom of Oolacile was swallowed by the Abyss, the last of the ancient Everlasting Dragons made its home in that land. Known to the unwise as the one-eyed dragon, Black Dragon Kalameet was as dark in colour and nature as its true name suggests, the only spark of light the glowing chaos gem between it’s eyes…

SPOILER ALERT: If you want the gameplay experience of the Black Dragon Kalameet Expansion to be entirely unexpected do not read the text, just look at the pretty pictures.

Obligatory Spoiler Alert out of the way…let’s have a look at what you get in the box.

  • 1x Rules Insert
  • 1x Kalameet Miniature
  • 1x Kalameet Health Dial
  • 1x Kalameet Data Card
  • 13x Kalameet Behaviour Cards
  • 8x Strafe Cards
  • 2x Kalameet Treasure Cards
  • 4x Calamity Condition Tokens
  • 4x Level 4 Encounter Cards
  • 1x Mega Boss Game Board (Double Sided)

Level 4 Encounters

We revealed how difficult a Level 4 Encounter could be yesterday, here is another such encounter. Prepare to Die really is a fitting slogan… The encounters we have shown are one of the ones that use only the Core Game miniatures, there are also Level 4 encounters that combine other expansion sets. The encounter we see here ‘Great Stone Bridge’ utilises:

  • 2x Sentinel
  • 3x Crossbow Hollows
  • 2x Silver Knight Swordsmen
  • 1x Gravestones
  • 1x Treasure

Black Dragon Kalameet Mega Boss

Again, we don’t want to spoil too much of this encounter but the Custom Game Elements introduced by Black Dragon Kalameet are the Calamity Condition and Strafe Attacks. As the name suggests the Calamity Condition will make your block, resist & dodge rolls harder to accomplish. Whilst Strafe Attacks represent Kalameet taking flight and scorching the ground doing massive AoE Damage. This is a tough fight, and Strafe Attacks make your positioning all important.

Campaign Scenario ‘Bathed in Flame’

If you played through ‘The First Journey’ Campaign on pages 34 and 35 of Dark Souls™: The Board Game rulebook then you can immediately continue your adventure with ‘Bathed in Flame’ which will pit you against two Level 3 encounters, a Level 4 encounter and finally Black Dragon Kalameet.

The Guardian Dragon also comes with Campaign Scenarios, but we’ll leave that for you to discover.

Before we sign off, we will be doing a live unboxing of both the Guardian Dragon, and Black Dragon Kalameet on Thursday 1st February (today) at 4PM GMT after we finish our playthrough of Dark Souls™ - The Card Game on twitch.tv/Steamforged

Guardian Dragon Expansion - Print Proof Copy
almost 7 years ago – Thu, Feb 01, 2018 at 12:12:24 AM

Hi Unkindled,

The SFG Community Team have taken over the Kickstarter Updates! We’re the guys who answer your questions on Facebook/Twitter, and we’ll keep you up to date on everything going on with Dark Souls™ - The Board Game (and let the Project Team focus on making sure we stay on track). If you’ve not seen the timeline for the project, you can view it HERE.

SFG have been sent through the ‘Print Proof’ boxes for Black Dragon Kalameet, and the Guardian Dragon Expansions for Dark Souls™ - The Board Game. These are the copies that get sent to the Project Team from the factory in China, so they can check everything is how it should be. We managed to pry the Guardian Dragon away from them and get some photos. When they go on lunch tomorrow we’ll grab Black Dragon Kalameet and show that off too!!

Guardian Dragon Expansion

Guardian of the passage to the Dragon Aerie from Lord Aldia’s Keep, this creature is not truly a dragon as those Everlasting were but is, rather strictly speaking, a drake. It is no less mighty or fearsome for its breed, however, and its kind rule the skies far above the earth, unquestionably the predominant predators of their domain…

SPOILER ALERT: If you want the gameplay experience of the Guardian Dragon Expansion to be entirely unexpected do not read the text, just look at the pretty pictures.

Obligatory Spoiler Alert out of the way…let’s have a look at what you get in the box.

  • 1x Rules Insert
  • 1x Guardian Dragon Miniature
  • 1x Guardian Dragon Health Dial
  • 1x Guardian Dragon Data Card
  • 11x Guardian Dragon Behaviour Cards
  • 4x Fiery Breath Cards
  • 2x Guardian Dragon Treasure Cards
  • 4x Level 4 Encounter Cards
  • 1x Mega Boss Game Board (Double Sided)

Level 4 Encounters

For starters, before you can take on the Guardian Dragon you have to complete a Level 4 Encounter. If you thought fighting 2 Hulking Hollows, 2 Hollow Soldiers, 2 Crossbow Hollows in a room with barrels and traps was tough…you should take a seat. There are SO many foes in your way that a Level 4 Encounter can only be completed on a Mega Boss Game Board and uses pretty much your entire grunt collection from the Core Game. For example, the Dragon Shrine encounter has:

  • 1x Sentinel
  • 3x Crossbow Hollows
  • 3x Silver Knight Swordsmen
  • 3x Hollow Soldiers
  • Traps
  • 2x Gravestones
  • 1x Chest
This won't be easy...
This won't be easy...

Your reward for completing this fiendish Encounter is a whopping 8 Souls per Player, and entry into the Mega Boss Encounter.

Guardian Dragon Mega Boss

We don’t want to spoil too much of the encounter as fighting a Mega Boss should be a new and exciting (and difficult) fight. However, be warned that the Guardian Dragon not only has a Mega-Boss Behaviour Deck but also a deck of Fiery Breath cards which can relocate the Guardian Dragon and reign scorching hot fire onto the intrepid adventurers. Each Mega Boss Expansion includes it’s own custom gameplay elements that bring unique challenges and opportunities to Dark Souls™ - The Board Game players.

Out of the frying pan, into the fire.
Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

That's all for today everyone join us tomorrow for a look at Black Dragon Kalameet.

Progress Update - Jan 22
almost 7 years ago – Tue, Jan 23, 2018 at 12:56:03 AM

Hi Unkindled,

Hopefully the January Blues aren’t getting you down. If they are then we have some photos that will hopefully bring a little cheer to this dreary month.

Progress Update

Timeline Reminder HERE

We’ve had the photos come through from the factory floor in China. It’s a neat insight into how the components for games are produced before the packing factory sorts them into boxes to be sent.

Wave 2

Model Production: Production continuing and well underway. The January target set out for model completion is still on track. It remains unlikely they will ship prior to Chinese New Year due to how close to the end of January they will be completed. The manufacturer has sent us through these photos :D

Graphical Assets: In production. Graphical assets have all been signed off and approved. The sheer number of cards is astonishing!

The 9 Tile Set (Darkroot Basin/Iron Keep) – No further update as of yet, we remain confident that this will be landing in Wave 2, as ever we’ll keep you informed of any changes.

Wave 3

Work continues on Wave 3! We’re awaiting the production samples of the Invaders/Summons to see their various colours in person, so we can select the ‘right’ colour...

Now obviously things can look a little different in photos, so we’ll be making a final decision based on the minis that we receive, but, which colour do you think gives the ‘right’ feel for the Invaders/Summons? Let us know in the comments below!

As ever we’ll keep you updated with how the project is coming along.

Happy New Year! Wave 2/3 Update
almost 7 years ago – Mon, Jan 08, 2018 at 10:55:53 PM

Hi Unkindled,

Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a safe, enjoyable break recently with family and friends.

Steamforged HQ is now nearly back to full running speed after our office shut down over Christmas - with support catching up a little due to the break.

The Pledge Manager is fully closed. If you have had any problems please drop support an email and they should be able to help you out. Hopefully this last chance opportunity helped those get what they wanted before shipment.

Progress Update

Timeline Reminder HERE

Now we are into the new year we wanted to update you with what has been happening since our big Timeline Update. We will break it into 2 parts Wave 2 & 3:

Wave 2

Model Production: Continuing and underway. We have requested photographs from the factory showing these stages (like we did with the core game) and hope these will be with us shortly. The January target set out for model completion is still on track. It is still unlikely they will ship prior to CNY due how close to end of January they will be completed.

Graphical Assets: All cards are in full production and on schedule. Although we expected no issues with the box art/rulebook/tokens, the approval process had a few last minute revisions. We expected this to be complete on the 22nd December however the final sign off for Wave 2 items (apart from the 9 Tile Set) happened today (8th January).  We have been working with our manufacturer closely throughout the Christmas period and hopefully this won't impact the timeline too much.

With any licence product this can happen and we have to be respectful of the owners wishes. Once we get a further update on if there is any impact on this slight delay we will let you know.

Now that the graphical assets are signed off for production, final samples will be arriving at HQ in January of each set - as soon as they land we will share photographs via Kickstarter.

The 9 Tile Set (Darkroot Basin/Iron Keep) has been a touch slower than the rest through both approval and completion. As this set is a solely printed item and quite simplistic to produce we currently cannot see this additional approval time effecting it landing in Wave 2, however we will keep you posted.

Wave 3

Work continues on Wave 3 - the final armour set that was still being revised has been approved and these are now in full re-tooling - on schedule for what we expect.

We are still working on the colours of the Invaders/Summons for the right 'style' - again we are on schedule for what we expect here though.

There are still some graphical assets from Wave 3 that need to go through approval due to revisions, but we are confident at this stage with the timeline.

Obviously the shipping/completion of Wave 2 takes priority right now but we wanted to update everyone to let them know we are continuing working on all aspects of the project.

When we have information we will update all, as always. The next update should have plenty of photographs all being well!
